Knoxville Family Photographer | Golden Hour at The Holmstead

Some sessions are worth the wait, and this one definitely was!

This sweet family of four is no stranger to my camera. I’ve had the joy of photographing them several times, and this particular session held something new! It was our first time shooting outdoors at The Holmstead Studio in Knoxville, after photographing their family indoors at Glasshalm Studio this past Christmas.

A Session Worth Waiting For

This session was postponed more than once due to sickness and rain, which happens more often than people realize in family photography. But good things come to those who wait! We finally landed on the perfect day. The light was golden, the weather cooperated, and everyone was happy and healthy. It made the whole session feel even more special knowing how much patience went into getting there.

Exploring The Holmstead’s Outdoor Spaces

I have photographed plenty of families inside The Holmstead Studio, but this was my first time using their outdoor location, and I am already planning ways to use it again! The fields of long, wild grass created such a soft, dreamy backdrop, and the porch swings added the perfect cozy, relaxed feel to the session. Paired with beautiful golden hour light, this location turned out to be one of my favorite outdoor settings I have photographed in Knoxville.

Capturing Gracie and Beckett at These Ages

One of my favorite parts of this session was how intentional mom was about capturing this specific stage of her kids’ lives. Gracie, who is two, and Beckett, who is six, are each at such distinct and fleeting ages right now. Mom wanted to make sure we captured the little things that define this season for them.

That meant including Gracie’s tea set for a sweet, imaginative portrait, and photographing Beckett with his favorite books, a small detail that says so much about who he is right now. These little personal touches are some of my favorite additions to any family session, because they turn portraits into a real time capsule of childhood.

We also captured the kids playing together, candid portraits of mom and dad each with their kids, individual close-ups of Gracie and Beckett, a sweet family moment on the porch swing, and of course, the whole family of four together.
